Today in the Town
of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will
be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a
manager. (Luke 2:11-12) But when the time
had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to
redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.
(Galatians 4:4-5) He had no beauty or
majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should
desire him. (Isaiah 53:2) He was in the
world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not
recognize him. (John 1:10) Since the children
have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his
death he might destroy him who holds the power of death – that is, the
devil – and free those who all of their lives were held slavery by the
fear of death. (Hebrews 2:14-15) Because he himself
suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being
tempted. (Hebrews 2:18) For forty days he
was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the
end of them he was hungry. (Luke 4:2) During the days of
Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud
cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was
heard because of his reverent submission. (Hebrews 5:7) My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death, he said to them. Stay here and keep watch. (Mark 14:34) Jesus said,
I am thirsty. (John 19:28) When he had
received the drink, Jesus said,
It is finished. With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
(John 19:30) And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even on a cross! (Philippians 2:8) |
